NDC Recycling Project (aka Wombles) converts junk from the civic amenity sites into cash, with profits being donated to charities and local causes.

Wombles was launched to establish a locally based community recycling project which primarily deals with providing furniture and other household items to residents in the NDC area. The team at Wombles can collect, repair and deliver free furniture items to people on low income who have been referred by either New Deal for Communities (NDC) or ELITE.

First ever text service to make recycling easier in London

Residents in the capital can now text 'Recycle' and their full postcode to the number 63131 to get details of their local recycling facilities. This complements the existing online service at www.recyclenow.com.

This text service from Recycle for London, which is the first of its kind in the country, would make it easier for those who rely on mobiles as a quick and easy way to access information on when recycling is collected and the nearest recycling facilities in their locality.
