THE hub wins regeneration award
THE hub; NDC's community resource centre won first place in the Regeneration Category of the British Construction Industry Awards, and was awarded runner-up in the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.

The winners of the prestigious awards were announced by the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, Minister for Culture, Media and Sport at an event on 13th October 2005.
- THE hub, which according to the judges, 'is a real feel good place' was built and is managed by West Ham and Plaistow New Deal for Communities (NDC).
- The building is one of three community resource centres planned for the NDC area in partnership with Newham Council, designed to deliver key public services to the community.
- The needs of our diverse local community were paramount in the design and application of the building which has a well-used community facility at its heart. Since opening last October the building has become a true 'hub' for the local community.

On receiving the awards, NDC Chairman Jim Ludlam said:
"Words cannot express how delighted we are to receive these awards. You only need to spend some time at THE hub to appreciate not only what a great building it is, but also the sense of pride the local community feel about it. After all it was the local community who helped shape the building as it is. To reach the final shortlist for the Prime Minister's Award and to win the Regeneration Award are testament to the hard work of everyone involved".

Newham's Mayor Sir Robin Wales who has been an advocate of THE hub, said on hearing about the awards: "From the start this has been a very ambitious project, but the building has managed to exceed all expectations.
THE hub is a fantastic example of how a well designed public building can have a positive impact on the local community".
