Diwali and Eid-Ul-Fitr are scheduled to fall on 1st November 2005 and 3rd November 2005 respectively. The school closures to celebrate these festivals fall within the second week of the October break.

This is the most likely date for the festival, although 11 and 12 January 2006 remain as possibilities. School not wishing to fix this date in their calendar until it is confirmed could advise parents of the range of possible dates and that the final closure will be notified nearer the time.

In-service training days:

This pattern includes the provision for 3 in-service training days in week commencing 31 October 2005, which can be disaggregated if schools wish. The remaining 2 in-service days can also be disaggregated or set at the discretion of the school. If school closures are arranged to facilitate these days then the school year will need to be extended for pupils to Monday 24th July 2006 (for 1 day) or Tuesday 25th July 2006 (for 2 days). Decisions about the organisation of in-service training should be taken following appropriate consultation with staff. There will be an opportunity for some schools to be use Thursday 4th May 2006, the date of the London local elections, as an in-service training day.
