All About NDC
West Ham and Plaistow New Deal for Communities (NDC) is a community based regeneration programme delivered by West Ham and Plaistow New Deal Partnership Limited and funded by the government to improve the local area over a 10 year period from 2000 to 2010.
By 2010 £54.6 million will have been invested in the area making this one of the most intensive and innovative community involvement programmes ever undertaken in Newham. Community involvement has and will continue to be the driving force of the NDC programme. The leadership and commitment shown by local people has not only led to some amazing achievements but has also helped to keep the wider community engaged and involved. Some achievements since 2000:
- Two community resource centres, THE hub & Grassroots, have been built to allow easier access to services such as health and childcare
- The Brooks Estate in Plaistow North has undergone £50 million revamp. Although largely funded by Newham Council and partners, NDC played a pivotal role in this scheme
- Crime rates have been steadily falling in the NDC area, bringing rates below those for Newham as a whole
- Two new nurseries have opened in the NDC’s community resource centres. Providing a large number of childcare places.
- Six schools in the NDC area have undergone considerable physical improvements
- Memorial Park has seen a number of improvements including a new play orchard and games area. A state-of-the-art sports facility will be opening in 2009.
