The Brooks/ Plaistow North Neighbourhood
The Brooks and Plaistow North area has approximately 1,100 households. The majority of the area is made up of a large local authority housing estate constructed in the 1960s on a bomb-damaged site. The estate used to consist of five 14 storey 1960s tower blocks and a five storey slab block with a ground floor shopping parade on Stratford Rd. Much of this has changed, and the area is undergoing a major redevelopment programme.
Some things NDC has done in this area:
- Worked with London Borough of Newham to secure the £50 million development taking place on the Brooks Estate
- Funded a package of improvements including new classrooms at Portway School
- Planning to build a third community resource centre in the area
