Some CIF Projects
A wide range of projects and activities have received funding from the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF). Below are just a few of them.
Asian Deaf Women's Association (ADWA)
The Asian Deaf Women's Association (ADWA) is a charity organisation providing support to Asian D/deaf women and mothers with Deaf/Hard of Hearing child/children who are living in LONDON.
Blooming Emma
Residents of Emma Road competed to create the most attractive hanging basket. This project increased community spirit by enhancing the environment and getting neighbours to work together in a spirit of friendly competition.
Slot Car Racing Club
This project kept young people occupied by providing a healthy, social and interesting activity based club. Participants learnt how to race slot cars, build tracks and about slot car mechanics.
Eastlea Bingo Club
It’s eyes down at The Hub every Thursday at 7.30pm. The Eastlea Bingo Group provides a genuine opportunity for members to get out and socialize in the evening. The group was awarded a grant to enable them to hire The Hub for their weekly bingo sessions.
Parent and Toddler Activity Classes
One local mother of a young child was awarded a grant to provide quality activities for pre-school children and their carers. A group was set up to promote child learning through high play, including improved language skills, physical coordination, confidence, sharing and creativity. The project also increased community spirit and provided mutual support.
Eastlea Line Dancers
This group had been strutting their stuff for over seven years when they lost their funding. They applied to CIF which was able to award a grant to keep them going. The group is largely made up of older people with the oldest a very young 86.
Black History Community Calendar
To mark Black History Month a local resident was funded to produce a Black History Calendar. The calendar followed the school year and was distributed through Star Primary School. This project raised awareness of black history by providing different cultures with information about a broad range of black history.
Project Plus
The Project Plus group received a grant to help it get started. Project Plus meets weekly and is a friendly place to help ease isolation and loneliness that many in the community feel, especially carers, older people, or those with long term physical or mental problems.
Africa at The Hub
The Destiny Pillar Foundation received funding to run an Africa at The Hub event featuring African story-telling, fashion, food and music as well as information on African health issues. The event brought the whole community together and was described by one participant as ‘electrifying’.
Over 50S outing to Brick Lane Music Hall
Members of the various Over 50s groups in the NDC area got together to visit Brick Lane Music Hall. The event was an opportunity for those taking part to socialise and enjoy a good old-fashioned music hall experience featuring the legendary Danny La Rue.
